The Weakley County Detention Center was built two miles from the main court house after local officials decided to replace the deteriorating, under-sized jail in the downtown area. Following its completion in 2000, the Weakley County Detention Center served as a model facility, offering tours for communities looking to build similar operations.

The Weakley County Detention Center houses the sheriff’s department, the E-911 center and dispatcher, Highway Patrol, TBI investigators, General Sessions courtroom, arraignment room, jail operations, a work release program, emergency training rooms, staff development rooms, and an impound yard.
